Photo by Luke MunchrathJennifer Scharpe is the executive director of the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture (CFA). Jennifer started her position in November of 2017 and has a strong passion for the agriculture community and educating the public on their connection to agriculture, food, and natural resources.
Scharpe is a Minnesota native and grew up on a small beef cow-calf farm. She moved to Colorado in 2009 and has worked in communications and public relations for two different national beef cattle breed associations, the American Gelbvieh Association and the North American Limousin Foundation. She has been involved with the American National CattleWomen, Inc., and was a member of their executive committee. In 2005, Scharpe joined the United State Peace Corps as a sustainable agriculture/animal production volunteer, living and working in Ecuador for two years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in animal and range science from North Dakota State University, and a Master of Science degree in journalism and mass communications from Iowa State University.
Jennifer is a 5th generation agriculturalist. Her brother Peter is raising the sixth generation on one of the original family homesteads in southern Minnesota. Jennifer enjoys spending time with her miniature schnauzer named Elsie. Her hobbies include providing media and graphic design services, quilting, and making home-made pickles, salsa, and jellies.
Cyndi Hofmeister is a third generation Colorado native and lives close to the Morgan County ranch her grandfather homesteaded in 1906. She is a strong "ag-vocate" of sustainable agriculture. She grew up on a farm where her family grew potatoes for Frito Lay Potato Chips and Campbell's Soups, along with a variety of other field crops and raised Texas Longhorns and market beef on family's ranch at Stove Prairie, near Fort Collins. She has been involved in education as a kindergarten, second grade, and 7-12 teacher, and as a district administrator responsible for teacher training, curriculum development, and district assessment. As a grant coordinator and writer, she researched and wrote federal, state and local grants for entities in the Colorado Community College System including Northeastern Junior College and Morgan Community College for fifteen years and served as a CASE Federal Funding Taskforce Team Leader in Washington D.C., developing liaison opportunities with a variety of federal offices and funders as well as acting as a grant reader and evaluator for the Colorado Department of Education.
Hofmeister served as the director of two concurrent School To Career partnerships, as president of the Rocky Mountain Brown Swiss Association, secretary of the Mountains and Plains Texas Longhorn Association, secretary of the National Association of Teachers for Family and Consumer Studies, and was selected as a Colorado Outstanding Family, Career and Consumer Leaders of America (FCCLA) Advisor. She was an FFA Dairy Evaluation Coach, 4-H Leader, and 4-H Youth Advisory Council Leader. She currently helps with the family farming operation and their family business, Hofmeister Appraisal Service, LLC., in which she works along with her husband and son specializing in Colorado agricultural and commercial property appraisals. Hofmeister holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Education from Colorado State University and a Master of Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
Lucee Church joined the staff of CFA on November 29, 2021. She is a part-time education program coordinator. Lucee taught middle school mathematics for ten years in the Mesa County Valley School District. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education-middle school mathematics concentration and a Master of Science degree in education media design and technology. She and her family live on a small farm in Loma where she grows and sells fresh cut flowers. They also raise chickens and pigs on a small scale.
Melissa Walter has been with the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture for several years. She first served as a board member while working for Colorado Corn and previously the Colorado Farm Bureau. She then started her own bookkeeping company called Silver Silos Management Services, LLC and took on CFA as one of her clients. Melissa maintains the financial records, handles payroll, and ensures financial transparency for CFA. Drawing on her experience working in agriculture and her degree in agriculture education, she also assists in developing content for various CFA projects and is involved in the planning and hosting of CFA's Summer AgriCULTURE Institutes. Melissa is involved in her family's beef cattle operation, Walter Angus. She and her husband have two young children.
